This operating system is based on the Linux kernel and has the latest version of the glibc library. gnome-go is the name given to the gnome-shell extensions.

The main feature of this OS is the easy to use “gnome” desktop. It looks like the elementary OS, but with a shell that is modified to resemble a modern computer. It includes many of the same features as the Windows operating system, but in a simplified format for the casual user. There are thousands of add-ons and utilities available to the user.

The system is very functional and is suitable for the user who wants to be productive right away. The system comes with an email client, an address book, a calendar and workspace, a control panel, and an audio visual system. This OS also includes thousands of applications, which include Firefox browser, calculator, FM radio, music player, and an image editor. The user can customize the desktop by using different themes.

gnome-go is mainly aimed at advanced users who want more from the desktop. For a beginner user who wants to learn more about the command line interface, then the gnome-ui is the better alternative. It provides a simple way to learn the functionalities of the desktop system.

gnome-go was released in October 2005, while the first official release of Ubuntu was in April of the same year. It is based on the Debian operating system, and provides an easy solution for users who do not have much experience with computers. The system does not come with any default or installed software, which means that the user has to install it. It is however possible to install apt packages. This feature is also supported by the community.

Both the Ubuntu and gnome-go have similar features, which includes the Gnome panel, the Live CD manager, the task manager, control panel, an email client, a calendar and a control center. However, the Ubuntu software package does have some advantages over the Gnome one. The Ubuntu package is free of charge and it comes with a variety of add-ons and the installed software. The user can install additional packages through the Internet. However, the gnome-go version is better because it supports a wide range of desktop resolutions and it comes with a large number of pre-installed games.
