Make a Gnome With These Gnome Making Supplies

Gnomes are a fun craft to make for any holiday. They can be made to decorate the house, garden or even used as yard ornaments. To make a gnome, you’ll need a few supplies and a little bit of time to get started.

This list includes the basic items you’ll need to make a gnome, plus some special supplies for more advanced gnome making projects.

You’ll also want some yarn and fabric for your gnome to be dressed in. Some ideas for fabrics to use include flannel, cotton jersey, wool and fleece. When choosing your fabric, keep in mind the type of gnome you are making. If you’re making a Halloween gnome, choose colors like purple, orange and black. If you’re making a Christmas gnome, stick to reds, greens and greys. And for Valentine’s Day, pinks and lilacs are great options for creating a festive gnome!

If you’re making a sock gnome, you’ll want to choose a patterned sock. Stripes, polka dots and buffalo plaid socks work well. You can even find sock styles with matching hats to make the whole look more uniform. When you’re ready to attach the hat, test it out on the gnome body and lay down a bead of hot glue where it will need to be attached. Be sure to press firmly to get good contact. Then, tie a pom pom to the tip of the hat.

The hands of a gnome can be made from any number of things, including mittens, mini stockings and plastic grocery bags. If you’re in a hurry, however, you can easily make gnome hands from a pair of old socks. Simply cut off the toe, draw a curved line across the top and turn the stocking inside out. Stuff the toe with a couple of plastic bags and run a line of hot glue along the edge of the sock.

To finish off your gnome, you’ll need to add some facial features. A felt beard works best, but you can also make a sock beard or even a crocheted beard. The best part is that you can create a different look by changing the yarn you use. For example, a brown sock beard can become an adorable forest gnome and a white sock beard becomes a snowy winter gnome.

Another great option for a DIY gnome is to build one out of concrete. This project is easy to do, and it looks just as cute as the ones you can buy in stores! Follow the free tutorials from Our Real Life or Ruffles and Rain Boots to get started. They also have a video tutorial that makes the process even easier. Once you’ve made a few of these DIY garden gnomes, you may want to try your hand at making a larger version to sit in your lawn. It’s a fun project to do with the kids too!
