Gnomes are a magical and beloved sight in gardens across the globe. They protect all kinds of treasures and are said to watch over the gardeners who grow their crops. This gnome silicone mold is perfect for making some fun and creative gifts, or a little something special to add to your own garden.
This mold is made of a food grade silicone which means that it is completely safe to be used with edible mediums such as fondant and chocolate, or even for cake decorating. It is also great for using in mixed media art, furniture decorating, wall plaques, scrapbooking and so much more!
Unlike rubber or hard plastic molds that are poured directly into the desired shape of a gnome, ceramic gnomes are usually made from a kind of liquid clay called’slip’ that is poured into a plaster type of mold that then gets dumped out again soon afterward. This process is repeated several times until a nice thick layer of the liquid slip clay has been built up on all sides of the plaster mold.
Then this new gnome is baked in a kiln or some other high temperature oven type thing that greatly strengthens it and makes it ready for painting, shipping or direct placement in the garden! There is a third way to make a gnome of course – but it’s rather difficult and some might say unethical! It involves hiding out in a forest at nighttime and then trying to lure the real deal gnome out with snacks or fake gnome mating calls and then capturing them and turning them to stone – but that isn’t the most popular method for making gnomes if I’m being honest.
All L&D Molds silicone molds are easy to use and easy to clean up after you’re finished with them – just wash them in warm water and then let them air dry before using again. They are made to last and will give you many years of faithful service if they are taken care of properly. For example, it is important to not use excessive bending or pulling on your castings. It is also a good idea to use only silicone-friendly mediums with these silicone molds and not hot glue, cold glue or other flammable mediums if you plan on baking your castings in them. If you don’t follow these tips you might damage the mould.
