How to Make a Gnome Quilt

Quilting is a fun and satisfying way to make your own special pillow or quilt. It is a great way to create something that can be cherished forever and is also an excellent way to use up any leftover fabric you may have in your stash. To get the best results, it is important to choose high quality fabrics that will hold up well to many washes and withstand machine quilting. Quilting cotton is one of the best choices, as it is specifically designed to withstand the repeated use and launders that quilting requires. The oh-so-soft texture of this type of cotton ensures that your quilt will be as soft as possible, while the high thread count makes it durable and long-lasting.

You can find quilting cotton in a variety of colors and prints, as well as in pre-cut fabric squares and fat quarter bundles. This helps you to easily put together a quilt that is colorful, modern and comfortable. Some of the most popular quilting cotton brands include Ruby Star Society, Art Gallery Fabrics, Dashwood Studio, Figo Fabrics, Cloud9 Fabrics and FreeSpirit Fabrics.

Before you can start sewing, you’ll need to prepare your quilting fabric and batting for sewing. Ideally, you should spray baste the layers together or pin them with 1 1/2″ stainless pins. This will help to keep the three layers of your quilt together so that they don’t move around while you machine quilt them.

Once your quilt is pinned and ready to stitch, you’ll need to trim the batting and the backing fabric to 1/4″ from the edge of your quilt top. This will give you a nice, clean finished edge on your quilt that looks great!

The next step is to sew your binding strip onto the front of your quilt. To do this, first lay the tail #2 of your binding strip over tail #1 along the unsewn edge of the quilt and trim it at a 90deg angle. Next, fold the two trimmed tails of your binding strip in half so that they overlap by 2 1/2″ and then sew them together. When you’re done, your binding strip should be a continuous piece that can be sewn to the front and back of your quilt.

Now you’re ready to finish the binding on your gnome quilt! When you’re done, your gnome quilt will be complete and ready to enjoy. It will be the perfect decorative addition to your living room or bedroom. Plus, it will be a wonderful gift for any occasion! Enjoy your new gnome quilt, and be sure to share it with others!
