Half Life 2 – Episode Two – The Gnome Chalets

The gnome chompski is a dynamic green ball that travels across the screen in an attempt to destroy all zombies on the screen. When first seen, it appears to be simply a floating green ball, however, when you press the trigger of the gnome chomps it instantly expands into a round, spinning, mini-koala head. The little green ball has the ability to grow and rotate in three dimensions in whichever direction you guide it with the trigger. This ability allows it to travel up, down, or around the course of the map using whichever direction works best for you.

As you progress through the episodes of Half Life 2: Episode Two, your gnome chompski will rotate into different forms that complement the current situation it’s in. In the episode one screen, you’ll see your gnome chompski shoot out of a hole in the floor and bounce onto the white ceiling. The second screen will see it traveling up a ramp and landing on the green barrels that line the base of your greenhouse. The final screen will see your little bot shooting through the city streets as he makes his way towards your lab.

Gnome Chompski’s ability to expand and rotate in three dimensions makes it a unique weapon to have when playing as the character Alyx. The gnome will rotate into a rocket and shoot at any zombies that walk through the path it is traveling. If you are playing as Alyx, you will use the gnome chompski in the same manner, but the only variation is that you will not be able to aim the shot at the zombies. This makes it more difficult for you than it would be if you were to use the shotgun in every scenario where gnomes could possibly be involved.

It isn’t all that uncommon to find players who are just having a little bit of fun with the achievements they unlock in Half Life 2: Episode Two. It seems as though the majority of players are going for the gnome chompski achievement and are not really concerned with the other objects available to them. This is fine, however, if you wish to focus your attention on these achievements. If you do not take the time to focus on these smaller tasks, you will not get everything completed. There are also other achievements in this episode, so if you are just looking for the little rocket man achievement, you will not get it.

In the first part of episode two, “Safe Room”, you will run into two guards outside of your lab. One of them will ask you to enter a certain password protected room, which contains a gnome statue. When you go inside, you will find yourself in a dark carnival of sorts, with gnome chompski statues all over the place. In order to move forward, you must defeat all of the gnomes before being able to proceed any further.

To make things slightly more interesting, in “Safe Room”, you will be asked to solve a riddle while looking at a painting. If you fail the riddle, gnome chompski will surround you, making the environment more intense and difficult to maneuver around in. You can get past all of these by moving quickly and effectively to the objective in “safe room”. The only problem with this is that once you are in the dark carnival, there is no way to return to the light or to continue your adventure. Either way, Half Life 2: Episode Two is definitely worth the price of admission.
