Gnome Warlock Class Guide

gnome warlock

A gnome warlock is a goofy, prankster character with some pretty awesome abilities and the ability to keep your party engaged with his cleverness. The gnomes of Midgard are known for their trouble with Baba Yaga, but they are also dangerous and entirely willing to kidnap, murder, and steal as needed to protect their mysterious woodland realm.

Their Lord of Secrets, Parzelon, has grown his cult widely among the gnomes. The gnomes are fearful of the dark and reliant on their infernal aid, but they are surprisingly intelligent.

The Gnome is a popular choice for many players, but their ability score increases make them more of a niche option than a viable class for a large variety of builds. Fortunately, two of the gnomes’ subraces have spell-like abilities that can be useful for many classes.

Forest Gnomes and Mark of Scribing: These are two subraces with spells that can be very useful for a range of classes. They offer a critical Charisma increase, plus some additional spellcasting options and a free cantrip.

Inscription: This is a handy profession for a warlock, giving you glyphs and scrolls of intellect to use at a convenient point in your spell list. It also provides off-hand tomes, shoulder enchants, and some shoulder armor at high levels.

Troll: The Troll is an interesting race for a warlock, as it provides a racial buff that is similar to Berserking but in a much lower cooldown period. It also gives you some regeneration, which can be a very useful resource for a warlock.

This racial buff will only be beneficial for a short time, but it is well worth the investment. The buff increases your haste by 15% for ten seconds, making it extremely useful for a warlock during a burn phase.

Forest Gnomes: The Forest gnomes have a lot of spells that can be very useful for casters, including Minor Illusion and Speak With Small Beasts. These aren’t spells that clerics have, but they’re still very useful for druids.

The Forest gnomes’ spells aren’t that good in combat, but they are a great choice for a druid, especially when used with Wild Shape. A druid can cast Wild Shape, which provides a defensive buff, and then use Gnome Cunning to help their party’s healers.

Another option for the forest gnomes is a feat called Nondetection, which grants them an ability that helps them fight in dark areas and hide from divination spells. This feat isn’t as useful for a warlock, since it only protects them from divination spells like See Invisibility, but it can be helpful for other Intelligence-based classes that don’t get the benefit of Blur or Disguise Self.

Besides these spells, the gnomes also have the feat Gnome Cunning, which can be very helpful for a barbarian, as it makes their mental saving throws more difficult. This is a particularly useful feat for a barbarian with a very high hit point cap, as it can keep them from becoming mind-controllers or banished, which could have major consequences.
